A Tamil father who has been searching for his forcibly disappeared daughter for over a decade passed away today.
72 year old Kanapathy Kandiah had been a part of the families of the disappeared protest in Mullaitivu demanding justice for his daughter, Thiruva Kandiah, who was forcibly disappeared during the final phase of the armed conflict in May 2009.
Over 125 family members of the disappeared who have been active in the protests across the North-East, demanding to know the whereabouts of the disappeared and justice for their fates, have died without answers.
Earlier this year, the Tamil families of the disappeared marked six years of continuous roadside protest and reiterated their calls for international justice.
Although Tamil families' calls for justice have preceded their roadside protests, various Sri Lankan governments have failed to provide answers and protected perpetrators from accountability.
