    Maaveerar Naal commemorations took place in Amparai's Kanchikudiyaaru Thuyilum Illam, which locals had cleared in advance and recovered a small number of headstones that had been destroyed by the Sri Lankan military previously.

    The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam's naval division, the Sea Tigers, were remembered in a ceremony on open water. A few individuals set out from Navatkuli on a decorated boat in order to hold the commemorations for the Sea Tigers.

    Students and staff at the University of Jaffna marked Maaveerar Naal today, with the campus decorated in red and yellow, and traditional remembrance banners as well as Maaveerar songs being aired in the hours leading up to the event.
