SL leases land to India in a joint thermal power venture

India and Sri Lanka confirmed today that the two governments will sign up to a joint venture that will see a 500 MW thermal power project established in Trincomalee.

India’s External Affair Minister, Salmaan Kurshid, will meet Sri Lankan counterpart, G.L Peiris, in Colombo to finalise the agreements on land lease and power purchase, which would see land given out on a long term lease by the Sri Lankan government.
