Buddha 'statue' mysteriously appears in Cheddikulam

Around noon on 9th April, a Buddha statue mysteriously appeared in Cheddikulam, Vavuniya.

The statue, about a foot and half in height, was placed atop a few bricks that were stacked by unknown persons, in front of the old railway station, by the side of the Cheddikulam - Mannar highway.

Locals noted that the Cheddikulam Murugan Temple is situated not too far from the new Buddha statue and expressed fear that this may be the first attempt at colonising the Cheddikulam area.

Sinhala colonisation has been rapidly increasing the past few years within the Northern and Eastern provinces of the island.
