<p>Over 100,000 people marched through central Hong Kong yesterday in opposition to a law which would make it easier to extradite people to mainland China.</p> <p>The plan would allow&nbsp;Hong Kong to send criminal suspects requested by China, Taiwan or Macau. Demonstrators worry that people could face vague national security charges and unfair trials in China. It is feared that the law will allow China to demand that Hong Kong hand over political dissidents, religious workers and business people whose work may violate some yet to be written law.</p> <p>Hong Kong’s legal system offers greater protections than in mainland China.</p>

<p>John Earnest, a 19-year-old man, has been held by the San Diego police for questioning following a shooting at a synagogue on Saturday which left one dead and three injured.</p> <p>Lori Gilbert Kaye, a 60-year-old woman was killed in the shooting as she threw herself in front of the rabbi&nbsp;to save his&nbsp;life.</p> <p>The motive for the attack has not been confirmed but investigators are analysing social media and an “open letter” which was posted by the suspect before the attack.</p>

<p>Protesters in Sudan continue their call for civilian rule during the first meeting between a panel of protesters and the military council.</p> <p>Demands from the demonstrators include a four-year transition period to make the necessary arrangements to get rid of the former regime, to implement transitional justice and to prepare for real and decent elections.</p> <p>“We need a civilian government to set up a foundation for a modern Sudan followed by elections that have integrity and represent the will of the people,” one protester said.</p>

<p>Kurdish activists and friends have been occupying Amnesty International headquarters in London since Wednesday to shed light on the Kurdish hunger strikes.</p> <p>More than 7,000 people, mainly political prisoners jailed in Turkey, are on indefinite hunger strike to demand Kurdistan’s worker’s Party leader, Abdullah Ocalan, the right to visits by his lawyers and family.</p> <p>Ocalan has been detained since 1999 and has not been allowed to see to his lawyer since 2011 and his family since 2016.</p>

<p>Over 30 Venezuelan refugees are missing and are suspected to have drowned after their boat capsized while travelling to Trinidad.</p> <p>The fishing boat, Jhonnaly Jose, sank just 5km from the Venezuelan coast in the early hours of Wednesday morning.</p> <p>The boat recorded 25 passengers but sources say additional passengers boarded unlogged. All passengers were aged between 17 and 28 and were mostly women.</p> <p>Four survivors have been found, including the captain, Francisco Martinez.</p>

<p>Iranian legislators have approved a bill&nbsp;labelling the US military as “terrorist”.</p> <p>The move comes after the Trump administration announced that no country would no longer&nbsp;be exempt from sanctions if it continues to buy Iranian oil.</p> <p>Once the bill receives its final approval by Iran’s constitutional watchdog, it will become law.</p> <p>Last week, Iran’s Parliament approved a bill which initially labelled the US military operating in the Middle East as “terrorist”. This was in response to Trump’s designation of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard Corps as a foreign terrorist organisation. &nbsp;</p>

Police in Northern Ireland are blaming an offshoot of the IRA, being called the “New IRA”, for the murder of a journalist and rioting in Derry on Thursday night.

India has suspended cross-border trade with Pakistan administered Kashmir after probe agencies found that the route was being used to transport weapons, drugs and fake Indian currency, in a further crackdown in the region. 

A coalition of opposition parties in Egypt has called on voters to reject a proposed constitutional amendment which could allow President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to extend his term until 2030.

The proposed amendment would extend a president’s term from four years to six and allow for a maximum of two terms. There is also an article specific to Sisi that would extend his current second four-year term to six years and allow him to run for another six years, extending his rule to 2030.
