Mullivaikkal Week marked in the East by students and locals

The penultimate day of Mullivaikkal Week was marked in various places in the East on Thursday.

Students of the Eastern University held a blood donation drive, in which students from all faculties participated.

Commemorations to mark the last day of Tamil Genocide Remembrance Week before May 18 itself also took place in Trincomalee and Batticaloa, with attendance by locals, Eastern Provincial Council members, and visiting Northern Provincial Council members.

The Batticaloa event was held at Kallady Beach, while the Trincomalee commemoration was held at the monument to victims of Welikada prison massacres on Trincomalee Beach.

Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view

We need your support in keeping our journalism going. Support our work today.
