Another incident of Sri Lankan police brutality reported in Batticaloa

A Sri Lankan police officer has reportedly carried out another assault on a Tamil youth in Batticaloa, less than 24 hours after a video of a different officer kicking and punching two youths emerged.

The latest incident is reported by Virakesari to have taken place in Karuvapankeni in Batticaloa.

Video from the area shows a bloodied Tamil youth lying in the back of an ambulance whilst paramedics assess him.

Yesterday evening, a Sri Lankan police officer was seen brutalising two Tamil citizens in Batticaloa, kicking one individual and dragging and slapping another individual on a motorcycle. The two Tamil men, Thissasekaram Dilip and Thillainathan Kalairasan from Chenkaladi, were attacked by a traffic police constable attached to Eravur police, for not stopping their motorcycle.

Tamil National Alliance MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam shared the video on Twitter, before posting a screenshot of a WhatsApp message from Sri Lanka's Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara this morning, stating that the police officer responsible would be charged.
