The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court asked the judge to further delay the Kenyan President’s trial for crimes against humanity, as the government had failed to gather sufficient evidence for the case.
Kenyatta was charged by the ICC, in 2012, with crimes against humanity including, deportation and rape.
In a court filing, the Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, said, “from an evidentiary standpoint, the situation is the same as when the prosecution sought an adjournment of the trial date on 19 December 2013 – the available evidence is insufficient to prove Mr Uhuru Kenyatta’s alleged criminal responsibility beyond reasonable doubt.”
Friday's request for another postponement of the trial comes after the prosecution said in last year that it didn't have enough evidence to prove that Mr. Kenyatta was indeed responsible for inciting gang violence after the 2007 elections.
