The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding economic ties with Sri Lanka, as US Ambassador Julie Chung championed Donald Trump’s trade policies in a speech at the Rotary Club Joint Meeting on March 12. 

While touting Sri Lanka as a key partner, Chung placed heavy emphasis on Trump’s "America First" vision, which she argued does "not mean America alone" but rather signals a new phase of US-led economic expansion.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Sri Lanka in April to sign several agreements and inaugurate the long-delayed Sampur solar power plant in Trincomalee, Vijitha Herath confirmed on Saturday.

"We have maintained a close relationship with our neighbour India. Our first diplomatic visit was to India, where we reached several agreements on bilateral cooperation," Herath stated.

Tamils around the world have congratulated Gary Anandasangaree after he was appointed Canada’s Minister of Justice on Friday, a move that saw him become the first-ever Tamil-Canadian to hold the post.

“On behalf of the Tamil Bar Association, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree on his appointment as Canada’s 54th Minister of Justice and Attorney General—the first person of Tamil origin to hold this esteemed office,” said Prashanth Chandrapal, president of the Tamil Bar Association

Gary Anandasangaree has been appointed as Canada’s Minister of Justice, in a historic move that will see him become the first ever Tamil-Canadian to hold the post.

Anandasangaree, a lawyer and long-time advocate for Tamil rights, has played a key role in pushing for justice for war crimes and accountability for the genocide in Sri Lanka.
