The 63rd birthday of the leader of the LTTE, Velupillai Prabhakaran was marked at the ruins of his birth home in Valvettithurai on November 26.
Civilians gathered at his family home, destroyed by the military, and cut a birthday cake at midnight.
During the day, Tamils from the village and NPC Councillor MK Shivajilingam set about clearing the now demolished home.
Posters of the LTTE leader were plastered on walls, as more cake was cut, firecrackers set off and sweets passed round.
A group of former LTTE cadres also planted a tree at the site.
