Marking the 12th anniversary of the Mullivaikkal genocide, Congresswoman Deborah Ross introduced a bipartisan House Resolution calling for an "effective international mechanism for accountability" and a "permanent political solution" in Sri Lanka.

The resolution recognises that 12 years have passed since the end of the armed conflict when the Sri Lankan military had launched a massive offensive into Mullivaikkal, which eventually killed tens of thousands of Tamils.

British Tamils served kanji across greater London boroughs on Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day, to honour the victims and survivors of the Mullivaikkal genocide 12 years ago. 

Families of the disappeared in Vavuniya marked Tamil Genocide Day, laying flowers and candles in memory of the Tamils massacred in Mullivaikkal.

Two Swiss parliamentarians called for "international justice" and an "end to impunity in Sri Lanka" as Tamils across the world marked the 12th anniversary of the Mullivaikkal genocide. 

Fabian Molina, a Social Democratic Party parliamentarian, tweeted that he supports the "call of the Tamil community for international justice and an end to impunity in Sri Lanka." 

British Tamils rallied in London today to commemorate the tens of thousands of lives lost in Mullivaikkal in 2009. 

Protesters demonstrated at Parliament Square, demanding justice for the atrocities perpetrated by the Sri Lankan state in Mullivaikkal 12 years ago. 

Several Ontario school boards and Canadian Tamil organisations marked Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day, the final day of Ontario’s newly passed Tamil Genocide Education week.

On Twitter, Toronto District School Board “recognized the lasting trauma and impact” the Tamil Genocide "continues to have," stating; 

The Sri Lankan security forces have arrested as many as 10 Tamil men and women under the much-criticised Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) earlier today, after the group held a memorial event at a beach in Batticaloa to mark Tamil Genocide Day.

The memorial event saw Tamils gather at the beach in Kalkudah, light a flame of remembrance and lay flowers to commemorate the tens of thousands of Tamils killed by Sri Lankan security forces in 2009.

French Tamils gathered in Place de la Bastille, Paris, to commemorate 12 passing since the end of the Mullivaikkal massacre.

During the demonstrations, Tamils paid respect to the victims of Sri Lanka’s genocide and released white balloons to mourn the tens of thousands of Tamil civilians killed during the final phase of the conflict.

Marking 12 years since the end of the armed conflict in Sri Lanka, the US House Committee for Foreign Affairs has issued a statement highlighting the damning findings of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights which noted “ongoing impunity for human rights violations” and called on member states to consider “alternative accountability mechanisms”.
