Start of Maaveerar remembrance week marked in Tamil homeland

Tamils across the North-East have stated that remembrance activities for Maaveerar Naal on November 27 will go ahead despite increased fears after the election of accused war criminal Gotabaya Rajapaksa as president last week.

Students at the University of Jaffna lit a lamp on Thursday night to mark the start of 'Maaveerar Vaaram', the week of remembrance preceding Maaveerar Naal.

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP Sivagnanam Shritharan also posted on social media that the Kanagapuram Thuyilum Illam (LTTE cemetery) in Kilinochchi was being prepared for commemoration activities on November 27.
