Israel strikes Syria claiming Hamas casualty

The Israeli military conducted an airstrike in southern Syria on June 8, 2025, claiming it targeted and killed a member of Hamas in the Mazraat Beit Jin area. Hamas has not issued a statement regarding the reported death.

Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Norway sanction two Israeli ministers

On Tuesday, Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, and Australia imposed sanctions on Israel’s national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, and Israel’s finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich.

The 5 countries released a joint statement alleging that  Ben-Gvir and Smotrich incited “extremist violence and serious abuses of Palestinian human rights.” 

The statement reads,

Namibia marks Herero and Nama genocide for first time with memorial day

Namibia has held its first Genocide Remembrance Day to commemorate more than 70,000 Herero and Nama people killed by German colonisers in the early 1900s. 

The Herero and Nama genocide, which took place from 1904 to 1908, is described by historians as the first genocide of the 20th Century.

Far-right Israelis have stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and a UN facility for Palestinian refugees during the controversial annual “Flag March” which celebrates Israel’s occupation of East Jerusalem.

Thousands of Israelis stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and surrounding areas, including Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir. 

Al-Aqsa Mosque is Islam’s third-holiest site.
