'Of course it is genocide' - Former UN humanitarian chief says Israel is carrying out genocide in Gaza

Martin Griffiths, former UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief, says it is now “unequivocal” that Israel is carrying out a genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Griffiths speaking on The World stated that Israeli conduct in Gaza was genocide and the evidence was 'unequivocal' .

"I think now we've got to the point this is unequivocal. Of course it is genocide. Just as it is weaponising aid.

"We don't need to look behind ourselves to see that's the case. That should encourage us even more because we, of course, all doubted whether it would come to that level of definition.

"We all doubted whether famine is actually there. I think starvation is killing people. That's bad enough. We don't have to worry about famine, which is obviously there lurking in the shadows.

"Also, genocide… of course that's what has happened. We only need to look at the statements made. Prime Minister Netanyahu has the virtue of being very clear about his objectives."

Calling on Israel to stop its campaign of deliberate starvation and allow food into the besieged enclave, the UN last week said its mission to help Gaza’s Palestinians is the “most obstructed in recent history”.

“The aid operation that we have ready to roll is being put in an operational straitjacket that makes it one of the most obstructed aid operations, not only in the world today, but in recent history,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) spokesperson, Jens Laerke, said.
