Events were held in Jaffna earlier this month, to mark the 100th birthday of Dr. Thangamma Appakuddi, a woman praised for her public service to the Tamil people.

The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Central Cultural Fund, announced the launch of a new conservation project to protect the ancient Thuparama Image House, a Sinhala Buddhist site within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Polonnaruwa Ancient City.

Dr Jana Denzel is set to be the first Eelam Tamil contestant on BBC’s hit show “The Apprentice”, as it kicks off on TV screens across the UK next week.

The Apprentice, now in its 19th series, sees contestants from all over the UK compete for a £250,000 investment from British business tycoon Lord Sugar.  

Sri Lankan military intelligence officers have been arrested in connection with a robbery in Jaffna.

A total of six individuals, including two members of the Military Intelligence Division, were detained as suspects, after allegedly posing as Income Tax Inspectors to rob a jewelry store.
