Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena is hoping to secure a meeting with US President Barack Obama at the side lines of the G7 summit in Japan, reports the Sunday Times.
Sri Lanka has been formally invited to the summit, which is set to take place next month, and will see talks between Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the United States, and the European Union.
Japan also invited the heads of state and government of Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, reports ColomboPage.
The invitation has been hailed by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe as “a remarkable victory achieved by Sri Lanka in the international arena”, it added.
