An Indian tribunal at the high court in Delhi, looking into the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, heard that the organisation continued to be active in a manner detrimental to India, reported PTI.
The tribunal, headed by Justice G P Mittal, reserved its order to uphold the ban, after hearing the concluding statement by the central government and Tamil Nadu, which said that concluding from documents and oral evidence on record, the "LTTE continues to practice violent, disruptive and unlawful activities, which are prejudicial to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of India".
"Despite a continuous ban on LTTE since 1992 in India, its activities continue to pose a threat and are detrimental to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India directly or through various pro-LTTE organisations," the government said to the tribunal.
Tamil Nadu and the central government also said that the LTTE and pro-LTTE groups continue to remain active in the state.
