Valikaamam East condemns Easter Sunday blasts

Valikaamam East Divisional Secretariat passed a motion this week condemning the Easter Sunday blasts, which killed over 250 people. 

Paying tribute to the victims, members of the Secretariat lit candles at the session, passing the motion unanimously. 

Suicide bomb attacks by Islamist extremists targetted three luxury hotels in Colombo and three churches in Batticaloa, Negombo and the capital.

Fourteen children were killed during the bombing of Zion church in Batticaloa. 

Families and loved ones wept as bodies were identified and funerals took place, many having lost more than one member of their family.

Eye witnesses at the Zion church in Batticaloa described the suspected bomber travelling towards children who had gathered to celebrate Easter Sunday. 

At least 26 people were killed at the church with over 100 wounded.
