Sri Lanka’s deputy foreign minister Ajith Perera said that the country would be able to end the restrictions on the GSP+ trade benefits before the end of the year.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo on Monday, Perera alleged that there was an improvement in the field of human rights in Sri Lanka, and said,
“We are maintaining very close relations with a number of countries including India, the US, European Union. We hope that the GSP facility will be restored within this year.”
Perera added that the EU ban on fishery products from Sri Lanka was also likely to be lifted due to EU satisfaction with the state of human rights on the island.
