India’s High Commissioner for Sri Lanka, Gopal Baglay, reiterated India’s commitment to devolution in Sri Lanka whilst meeting with members of the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA).
Baglay maintained India’s full support for “devolution in Sri Lanka on the basis of full implementation of the 13A and early conduct of Provincial Council elections”. During the sessions, the High Commissioner, and the representatives of the TPA further spoke on issues that directly affected Tamils of Indian origin in Sri Lanka. The High Commissioner further noted, “the significance of the Indian Housing and other community Development Projects being implemented by the Government of India in the plantation region”.
The TPA was represented by members of parliament, Radha Krishnan, Udhaya Kumar, Velu Kumar, and General Secretary Chandra Schaffer. In addition to the High Commissioner, the Deputy High Commissioner, Vinod K Jacob and Political Counsellor, Banu Prakash was in attendance.
