The Sri Lankan government pledged extra resources for schools in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu, promising that progress would be evaluated within six months.
Making the pledge, prime minister Ranil Wickremasinghe said that the two regions would be declared as "Special Education Zones".
"The qualitative aspects of schools are to be enhanced with the provision of the human and physical resources. Those who are currently functioning as teachers in the area, affiliated to civil defence services, will be admitted to permanent teacher service upon conducting of an Examination and interview," the government's news site said.
