Government confirms meeting GTF in London

Sri Lanka's Foreign Ministry on Thursday confirmed it met with representatives of the Global Tamil Forum and the TNA in London last weekend, Ceylon Today.

Speaking to reporters, ministry spokesperson Mahishini Colonne said the government was following recommendations made by the LLRC in engaging with anyone, including the Tamil diaspora.

A journalist asked whether GTF spokesperson Suren Surendiran, who participated in the meeting, could be trusted in talks, as he was designated as a terrorist and GTF is proscribed as a terrorist organisation in Sri Lanka.

Ms Colonne responded that "We are prepared to accept assistance from anyone, including the diaspora, as well as any Tamils living in Sri Lanka, to bring about peace and reconciliation within the country, as suggested in the LLRC recommendations. If we go back in history and continue suspecting people, no one in politics in this country can be trusted."
