Canada's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, David McKinnon today met with former LTTE fighters in Mullaitivu and discussed ongoing Tamil concerns.
The former fighters, who have formed a political party, met McKinnon in Puthukkudiyiruppu.
The meeting took place just days after the Tamil day of remembrance, Maaveerar Naal, with red and yellow bunting still in place.
Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.
