In a historic event that echoed the resilience and spirit of the Tamil nation, the 'Yaazh Gaanam' concert, headlined by the acclaimed Tamil music maestro Santhosh Narayanan, unfolded on the evening of October 21st at the Muttraveli ground in Jaffna. This gathering marked not only a celebration of music but also a poignant tribute to Tamil heritage, a moment of reflection on the liberation struggle, and a resounding call to action using the power of music.

Seeing success in every feature since his 2017 debut ‘Maanagaram,’ Kanagaraj has quickly become a directorial darling in Tamil cinema, featuring acting titans of the industry in his last three films. Kanagaraj joins hands once again with actor Vijay, following their 2021 film ‘Master,’ for one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year ‘Leo.’ Unfortunately, the film fails to live up to expectations. 

‘Chithha’ tears out the viewer’s heart and holds it ransom - an impressive feat. SU Arun Kumar has delivered a gut-wrenching thriller, displaying a little horror whilst insinuating a lot.

On 30th September 2023, members of the Tamil art scene in Toronto congregated at the Harbourfront Centre to celebrate and support Tamil literary talent. Event host Nedra Rodrigo opened the event with a sit down conversation featuring Priya Guns (author of 'Your Driver is Waiting') and Akil Kumarasamy (author of 'Meet Us by the Roaring Sea'). Rodrigo discussed topics ranging from the writers' writing processes to their motivations when writing. 

Hoping to recreate the massive success of the Tamil film, Vasu has recruited Raghava Lawrence and Kangana Ranaut as Vettaiyan and Chandramukhi respectively. ‘Chandramukhi’ is the film which kickstarted the comedy-horror trend in Tamil cinema, and so it is fitting that Vasu joins hands with the biggest beneficiary of the genre. 

The air in Jaffna was filled with divine fervour as the historic Vadamaradchi Vallipura Alvar Temple hosted its annual chariot festival on Thursday. Devotees from far and wide gathered to partake in the spiritual celebrations that unfolded throughout the day.

The festivities commenced with special pujas in the morning, setting a sacred tone for the day.  As the day progressed, the temple's deity Vallipurathan made his procession around the locality by chariot.

In a vibrant celebration of spirituality and devotion, the Sappara festival at Chemmalai Manicka Pillaiyar Temple in Mullaitivu District unfolded with grace and fervour on the 27th of September. The temple witnessed a spectacular gathering of devotees who came together to partake in the festivities.

The proceedings were led by Shivacharya Kalakaraguru, the venerable guide of the temple. The day commenced with special puja services and locals numbering in the hundreds eagerly participated in the rituals.

In the summer of 2023, a group of 20 British Tamil students and graduates embarked on a transformative journey to the rural heartlands of the Tamil homeland. The trip encompassed activities in Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Vavuniya, Killinochi and Mullaitivu. Their mission was to make a positive and lasting impact on communities through volunteering in schools, orphanages, hospitals, and care homes. This two-week endeavor, known as the 'Aram Trip,' was organized by a group of recent graduates and facilitated by Tamil Aid, a reputable UK-registered charity.

From his debut feature ‘Trisha Illana Nayanthara,’ Adhik Ravichandran established himself as the king of tastelessness. Successive films such as ‘AAA’ and ‘Bagheera’ were both critically panned and box office failures. Somehow, not only has the director managed to keep making films, but has doubled down on his style with his new film ‘Mark Antony.’ Even more surprisingly, the film manages to entertain its audience by sticking wholeheartedly to its ridiculousness. 

Nelson's sudden downfall may have been due to mishandling a Tamil industry heavyweight, Vijay, for ‘Beast,’ leading to a bland action film, where the humour takes a back seat. He decides to double down by signing on an even trickier assignment with Rajinikanth, which has turned out to be an uneven venture.
