Thuyilum Illam cleaning and remembrance events take place across Batticaloa

Thuyilum Illams across were cleaned in preparation of Maaveerar Naal tomorrow despite facing Sri Lankan military intimidation.

The Sri Lankan army took the personal details of those preparing to commemorate Maaveerar Naal in Puli Painthakallu. Each year, the Sri Lankan state ramps up its surveillance across the Tamil homeland as Tamils engage in various memorialisation activities to mark Maaveerar Naal.

The sixth day of Maaveerar remembrance week was marked in Vellavalli and Vakarai. Lamps and candles were lit in tribute to the tens of thousands of Tamil fighters who laid down their lives for the liberation struggle.
