Day six of Maaveerar remembrance week observed in Nallur

The sixth day of 'Maaveerar vaaram', the week of remembrance preceding Maaveerar Naal, was observed in Nallur today.

Relatives of fallen fighters and locals lit lamps in front of the 34 plaques that were erected earlier this week at a memorial hall in Nallur. The plaques list the names of tens of thousands of Tamil fighters who lost their lives in the Tamil struggle for liberation.

Events have taken place across the North-East to commemorate the fallen fighters. Tamils have also been cleaning Thuyilum Illams across the homeland as the nation prepares to mark Maaveerar Naal tomorrow.

We need your support

Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view

We need your support in keeping our journalism going. Support our work today.
