A number of armed robberies were reported in Jaffna district this week with men carrying swords and iron rods breaking into homes.

Around 1am, the men broke into their third house in Meesalai West where they again stabbed one of the residents before running off with a gold necklace and bangles. The men attempted to enter another home in Meesalai however were forced to escape after the householders alerted neighbours by screaming.

On Monday, five shops in the outskirts of Jaffna town were burgled by a group of six masked men between the hours of 8-9pm.

A passerby was also mugged by the group who ran off with his jewellery.
