Families of disappeared commemorate Sunday Easter attack victims

The victims of the Easter Sunday bomb attack in Sri Lanka last year, were paid tribute by families of the disappeared in Vavuniya, on Tuesday.

Tuesday marked one year since the incident that took away the lives of hundreds of civilians in a coordinated unprecedented act of violence.

The one-year anniversary of the attacks marked 1,159 days since the families of the disappeared in Vavuniya started protesting for answers on the fate of their forcibly disappeared loved ones.

Even though it being over a year since the Easter Sunday bomb attacks happened in Sri Lanka, there has been no accountability of state or military officials who ignored multiple calls that there was an impending threat of an attack.

Instead they have used the opportunity to increase surveillance and discriminative action against the Tamil and Muslim minorities.
