TYO-UK launches chess & carrom tournament

Over twenty sporting enthusiasts took part in TYOUK’s first Chess and Carrom tournament held on Saturday 13th August 2011. Participants from across London, included a few adults but mainly children, including many members of the UKTSU football team. The chess tournament included three divisions – under 12s, under 16s and open, whilst carrom was divided into two – under 16s and open. 16th annual British Tamil Sports festival held

On Sunday the 21st August, The British Tamil Sports festival had its 16th sports meet at the Richard Evans Memorial Playing Fields in Putney. With over 100 teams competing in a wide range of sports, from Cricket and Football to Kabaddi, a large crowd had gathered to enjoy the day’s festivities. Protest in London against India death sentences

Over 600 people staged a peaceful protest outside the Indian High Commission in London Tuesday, urging the Indian government to grant clemency to the 3 Tamils sentenced to death for their alleged part in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Thurkkai Amman Ther attracts over 8000

Over 8000 devotees attended the annual ther (chariot) festival at Shri Kanaga Thurkkai Amman Temple (SKTAT) in Ealing, London on 14th August 2011. The temple is one of twenty five established in London by the Eelam Tamil community over the past three decades. The Athletics Council of Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance in partnership with Canadian Tamil Sports Association (CTSA) hosted the 3rd Annual Tamileelam Challenge Cup last Saturday. Tamil Eelam flag joins Borussia Dortmund’s parade

The national flags of Tamil Eelam and Sri Lanka were amongst forty paraded Saturday in Germany’s biggest stadium, the Westfalenstadion, before a football match between champions Borussia Dortmund and FC Nuremberg. Tamil Sangam formed in Indonesia

Over 400 Tamils came together in Jakarta to launch the Indonesia Tamil Sangam (ITS) last month, the Jakarta Post reported. Members included Eelam Tamils and South Indian Tamils living in North Sumatra, Jakarta and West Java, as well as Australia, Singapore and the United States. British Tamils held a candle light vigil Saturday evening opposite the Prime Minister’s official residence, 10 Downing Street, to remember victims of Sri Lanka’s 1983 ‘Black July’ anti-Tamil pogrom.
