US Defence Attaché meets Sri Lankan commanders

The newly appointed Defence Attaché at the US embassy in Sri Lanka met with commanders of the Sri Lankan security forces in Kilinochchi and Jaffna this weekend.

“During the cordial meeting, both of them exchanged views on general matters of interest and prevailing peaceful environment in Kilinochchi area,” said an official Sri Lankan military website on a meeting between Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Hess and Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana.

Lieutenant Colonel Hess also met Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi in Jaffna.

Earlier in July, the US military official also met with the Sri Lankan Minister of Defence. His appointment and meetings with Sri Lankan military officials, come as military ties between the two governments has grown over the last year.
