Sri Lankan soldiers protest against missing persons bill

Sri Lankan army soldiers protested in Battaramulla against the government's passing of the Office of Missing Persons bill last week. Five joint opposition MPs were also present.

The soldiers, who were led by the Movement of National War Heroes and the Weera Lanka Foundation and supported by the Patriotic Bhikkhu Front', said the government "intends to witch hunt war heroes and is seeking reconciliation to please western powers", the FT.lk reported.

"The enactment of the OMP Act would betray the sovereignty of Sri Lanka," the soldiers added.

The Buddhist monk organisation, the Patriotic Bhikku Front addressed the protestors pledging to protect those they described as 'war heroes' from the OMP bill.
