Sri Lankan army provides ‘educational assistance’ to Tamil schoolchildren in Poonakari

Soldiers from the 661 Brigade in the 66 Division of the Security Force Headquarters (Killinochchi) gave away school accessories to children in Pooneryn on Monday.

Troops received sponsorship from National Tourist Guide Lecturers’ Association and the ‘Kind Heart’ Association.

Sri Lanka's official defence website states “the donation was made in order to uplift the educational standards of the children," whilst another official military site said "most of those students from very low-income families have been badly affected due to recent floods or lack of income generating employment opportunities in the areas”.
