Singapore launches capacity building projects in Jaffna

The Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister, K Shanmugam, today, launched a new youth development project at Jaffna Library.

The community development project by the Singapore International Foundation (SIF), aims to enhance English Language communication amongst Jaffna youth, by providing learning resources and training for English teachers in Jaffna.

The project aims to help at least 3,000 children aged between 10 and 18 years old within the Jaffna district.

The ‘youth section’ of Jaffna library also received a contribution of 10,000 English books from Singapore’s National Library Board.

The Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister, during his visit to the North-East met the Chief Minister of the Northern Province, CV Wigneswaran.

Commenting on his meeting with the minister, Wigneswaran said,


"Singapore acts in a very admissible manner in the field of education. However they do not want to discuss politics. We presented our problems. I informed him about the present situation and the problems we face relating to the provincial council. He understood our plight."
