Sri Lanka’s Terrorism police interrogate Uthayan editor on Maaveerar Naal

Sri Lankan’s Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) interrogated the editor of the Uthayan newspaper about an article published three years ago today, on Maaveerar Naal, as Tamils around the world commemorated their war heroes.

Thangarajah Prabhakaran, editor of the Jaffna-based Tamil daily Uthayan, was interrogated for over 4 hours earlier today.

The interrogation was due to the publication of a newspaper article related to the birthday of Velupillai Prabhakaran, leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), from 2020.

Sri Lankan police arrest TNPF organiser in Batticaloa

Sri Lankan police have arrested the Batticaloa district organiser for the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF), as he headed to the Thandiyadi Thuylim Illan just moments ago.

Kanapathipillai Gukakumararajah was reportedly detained and lamps that he was set to light to commemorate Maaveerar Naal seized.

He is currently being held at Vavunathivu police station.

Blocked by police, Tamils forced to commemorate Maaveerar Naal on Amparai roadside

Sri Lankan police prevented dozens of Tamils, including a member of parliament, from commemorating Maaveerar Naal at the site of a cemetery housing the war dead earlier today, forcing them to light lamps on the roadsides of Amparai.
