Speaking at the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council, a representative of the Association Culturelle Tamoul en France slammed the international community for its failure to end the military occupation of Tamil Eelam and stressed the need for Sri Lanka to be referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In her statement, she notes the failure of the High Commissioner to identify the massacres against Eelam Tamils as genocide and highlighted that a solution has not been found for the Tamil Families of the Disappeared. Instead, she charged the council with aiding the continued militarisation of the North-East.
“During the genocidal war against Eelam, 146,679 people were unaccounted for in Vanni during the last seven months of the war. In Tamil Eelam, Tamil activists and Tamil victim-survivors are under Sri Lankan military occupation and are facing continuous harassment under the PTA by the Sri Lankan security forces and Sri Lankan judicial system. Just for having protested or participated in the P2P movement, to ask for their basic civil rights. Tamils are losing their land by systematic colonisation, buddhisation, and militarisation of Tamil lands” she told the Council.
She maintained that it is vital for member states to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court.
