British Tamils commemorate Maaveerar Naal

Amidst coronavirus restrictions across the United Kingdom, British Tamils across the country held small scale and online events to commemorate Maaveerar Naal.

Parliamentarians and government ministers from multiple political parties across the UK, also marked Maaveerar Naal with messages of tributes and solidarity to the Tamil community in the UK and in the Tamil homeland, for those who sacrificed their lives in the Tamil struggle for freedom.

See a selection of events below.

A ceremony was organised in the UK which was live-streamed for British Tamils to follow from their homes.

Another ceremony was held at the grave of  Murugathasan Varnakulasingham, who self immolated in protest in February 2009.

Tamil families in the UK also marked Maaveerar Naal in their own homes.
