Thousands of Tamils commemorated Maaveerar Naal in Batticaloa at a number of public and private events across the district. 

Tamils in Mannar gathered at thuyilum illams to commemorate fallen LTTE fighters on Maaveerar Naal.

Following from a morning tribute event at the University of Jaffna, students held a traditional evening service to mark Maaveerar Naal, featuring the lighting of the flame of sacrifice at 18.05.

As night fell in Jaffna, lamps were lit all over campus, decorating the Maaveerar monument in the courtyard which formed the centre of commemorations.

Thousands of Tamils gathered at thuyilum illams, memorials and public buildings across Jaffna district to commemorate Maaveerar Naal, paying tribute to the sacrifice of the Maaveerar - fallen Tamil fighters. 

Members of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK), a constituent party of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), marked Maaveerar Naal in Jaffna on Tuesday, in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Tamil struggle.

The Batticaloa campus of the Eastern University saw a Maaveerar Naal remembrance event for the LTTE, attended by Tamil and Muslim students.

The student union of the Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies organised the event in Kallady, Batticaloa.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam's naval division, the Sea Tigers, were remembered in a ceremony on open water. A few individuals set out from Navatkuli on a decorated boat in order to hold the commemorations for the Sea Tigers.

Thousands of British Tamils gathered in London today to mark Maaveerar Naal, in remembrance of all those who gave their lives in the struggle for Tamil liberation.

Residents of Valvettithurai, the home town of LTTE leader Veluppillai Prabhakaran, gathered at the site of a destroyed memorial in Theeruvil to commemorate Maaveerar Naal.

Maaveerar Naal was marked in Vavuniya at the urban council hall in Vavuniya town.

A court order last week had reportedly banned commemorations at Eechankulam, the only thuyilum illam in the Vavuniya district.

Maaveerar Naal was observed in Koppay today despite a high profile intimidation campaign by Sri Lankan police over the last week.

Families of the Maaveerar were honoured at private remembrance event in Kilinochchi ahead of the large scale commemorations planned at Kanagapuram Thuyilum Illam later in the day. 

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP for Kilinochchi, S Sritharan also attended the event to pay tribute to fallen LTTE cadre. 

Students and staff at the University of Jaffna marked Maaveerar Naal today, with the campus decorated in red and yellow, and traditional remembrance banners as well as Maaveerar songs being aired in the hours leading up to the event. 

Students and staff at Eastern University, Batticaloa held a remembrance event commemorating Maaveerar Naal today, lighting candles and paying tribute to the Maaveerar. 

A blood donation drive was also held by students in memory of the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the Tamil liberation struggle.
