
A memorial sports tournament commemorating Colonel Shankar, the Special Commander of the Tamil Eelam Air Force (Sky Tigers) who was killed in an attack carried out by Sri Lankan deep penetration forces in Ottusuddan, Mullaitivu, on 26 September 2001, was held in Switzerland on 7 June 2026.

Organised by the Sports Division of the Swiss Tamil Coordinating Committee, the event took place at the Wankdorf Stadium in the canton of Bern.

The tournament commenced with the hoisting of the Tamil Eelam national flag and the Swiss national flag, alongside the lighting of the flame of sacrifice and a moment of remembrance.

Competitions were conducted in softball cricket and adult football categories. Medals and trophies were awarded to players representing the winning clubs in recognition of their performances.

The event concluded with the lowering of the Tamil Eelam and Swiss national flags, followed by the recitation of the Thaaraka Manthiram.

Organisers conveyed their appreciation and congratulations to all clubs, athletes, club officials, coaches, enthusiasts, supporters, activists and members of the Tamil community who contributed to the successful conduct of the tournament.
