Sri Lanka's PM claims he will repeal orders to shoot on sight 

Newly appointed Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe claimed he would repeal orders for Sri Lanka's security forces to shoot on sight amidst international condemnation.

Responding to the issuing of these orders, Amnesty International stated:

"Authorities in Sri Lanka must immediately rescind the emergency regulations and shooting orders that provide excessive powers to the police and military, and take immediate steps to respect, protect and fulfil the human rights of peaceful protestors".

While the Prime Minister made this commitment to foreign journalists, his office warned that the order would be reintroduced if riots resumed.

His office further claimed that the government would move to repeal the 20th amendment and shrink the powers of the executive presidency.
