JVP bemoans lack of progress on corruption probes

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said on Friday that the slow progress on the corruption and fraud investigations involving those connected to the previous government begs the question whether the Sirisena-led government had made political deals with those alleged to have committedthose crimes.

“We have submitted relevant documents to the FCID, the Bribery Commission and the Courts regarding these incidents. But the investigations are proceeding at a snail’s pace. We urge the Government to hasten the investigation process,” MP Vijitha Herath said.

The MP said the government’s explanation for the delay in the investigation process was not acceptable and the release of former MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardene on bail is one of the incidents which suggests a political deal had been made.
