The commander of the Sri Lankan navy and other senior military members visited a United States nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, as it passed by the region earlier this month.
The senior Sri Lankan armed forces members flew from Colombo to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN90) as the aircraft carrier made its way to Hawaii. They were greeted by the Commanding Officer Captain Karl O Thomas and Rear Admiral Christopher Grady, the Commander Carrier Strike Group 1.

The Sri Lankan navy was left in admiration of the United States vessel, stating “through the stunning and bearing maneuvers by the onboard aircraft, the ship amply demonstrated her inherent capabilities to carry out missions required to ensure supremacy of air power in any battle space”.
The navy went on to say “the visit can be considered as a leap in the relationship with the two Navies and will certainly help ensure further cooperation in the field of maritime security... It also reflects the confidence the two countries have in facing common threats together.”
