US Embassy renovates schools in East

The US Embassy in Sri Lanka inaugurated two school construction projects in Amparai and Trincomalee this week.

The project, carried out by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) at a cost of over $1 million USD saw the renovation of Al Mazhar Girls High School in Nintavur in Amparai and Soodaikuda Barathy Vidyalayam in Trincomalee.

Twelve classrooms, a 35,000-liter rainwater harvesting system, and 17 additional bathroom stalls were added at Al Mazhar Girls High School and five new classrooms and a 35,000-liter rainwater harvesting system at the Soodaikuda school.

The classroom building at Soodaikuda incorporates an emergency shelter on the top floor, providing a safe location for local families in the event of a natural disaster and the project also created a new handicap-accessible toilet block with ten stalls, the US Embassy said.
