The UNP parliamentarian, Sajith Premadasa called on all political parties to come together and form a united movement against an upcoming resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council.
Premadasa said,
“We, the UNP strongly believe that if there is a domestic issue, it should be solved internally and not internationally. It is our duty to come together to save the country. If the resolution is passed next March at the UNHRC, the consequences could be adverse. There will be sanctions. Therefore I suggest that all parties should come together to face threats posed by international forces."
He also suggested that a special unit should be established in the External Affairs Ministry in order to deal with the Tamil diaspora.
The prospect of international pressure calling for accountability and justice into crimes committed against the Tamil people has consistently been met, not only with a united front by the both the government and the opposition, but an attempt to outbid each other on their hostility towards it, in order to win over the Sinhala electorate.
