Tamil Nadu’s Trichy police department arrested four Tamils for challenging a video posted earlier this month on social media, that showed former Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran in a derogatory manner.

The detained individuals include journalist and Youtuber ‘Sattai’ Duraimurugan, Naam Tamil Katchi (NTK) member Vinoth, political campaigner Saravanan and another man named Santhosh.

The individuals were charged for allegedly urging and “threatening” a man, who put up the social media post earlier this month, to take it down. The man who posted the video lodged a complaint stating that the men came to his shop and “threatened” him.

The men were then charged under various Sections of IPC, including Section 143 (Punishment), Section 447 (Punishment for criminal trespass) and Section 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot).

NTK Chief Coordinator, Senthamizhan Seeman, demanded the immediate release of his “brothers” and insisted that that the imprisonment is a politically motivated move.
