Top Tamil Conservative receives honour from the Queen

Gaj Wallooppillai, a senior Conservative Party advisor and International Secretary received an OBE from the Queen in the 2021 New Years List. The honour was awarded for services towards equality and community cohesion.

During his tenure as councillor for the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Wallooppillai was instrumental in in securing the twinning of Jaffna with Kingston in 2016. As well as local government, his career has spanned roles in central government, as well as both the European and British Parliaments. 

He joins a number of Tamil doctors that were recognised in the Covid-19 Honours in 2020.
