Tamils across London hoist Tamil Eelam flags in build-up to Maaveerar Naal

Tamils across London are showcasing their unity by flying the Tamil Eelam flag outside homes and businesses in the build-up to Maaveerar Naal, which takes place on 27 November.

The move, which has been repeated annually in recent years, is reflective of the unity of the British Tamil diaspora as they have sought ways to commemorate the fallen despite large commemorations being curtailed by COVID-19 restrictions.

The flags have been erected by various Tamil-owned businesses across London.

We need your support

Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view
