Sri Lankan security forces conduct raids in Mullaitivu after reported explosion

Sri Lankan security forces carried out search raids in homes in Mullaitivu last week, after they reported an explosion had occurred in Mankulam on November 26, the day before Maaveerar Naal was commemorated by Tamils across the North-East.

Troops from the Special Task Force (STF) conducted searches of several homes in the Mankulam area on November 27, as a military crackdown was underway across the region, with several arrests taking place.

The security forces claimed that an explosion had occurred from a “locally made bomb” and have said that further investigations are underway.

The raids come as dozens of arrests have been made across the North-East, from Tamils accused of posting photographs on Facebook to the military claiming to have found explosives and ammunition.
