Sri Lankan police arrest former LTTE cadre and family alleging possession of weapons

A former LTTE cadre was arrested on Saturday after Sri Lankan police claimed to have received a tip-off that he was hoarding weapons.

The former cadre identified as 36-year-old Joseph Peter Robinson was arrested in Trincomalee on Friday, allegedly in possession of an assault rifle.

After his arrest and detention, his home in Ambalkulam, Kilinochchi was raided on Saturday by Kilinochchi police and Special Task Force (STF) troops.

Robinson’s wife and sister were arrested, while Sri Lankan police claim to have recovered several weapons and ammunition from the home. They also claim to have recovered claymore mines in Jaffna based on infromation gained from interrogations.

Police also claimed that several t-shirts with the face of LTTE leader Veluppillai Prabhakaran and Tamil Eelam logos were found in the house.
