Sri Lankan government officials resume excavation for LTTE gold in Mullaitivu

Excavations resumed in Suthanthirapuram, Mullaitivu where government ministers are in search of LTTE gold.

Excavation work was started by Sri Lankan police on 2 December. Mullaitivu court judge R. Saravanaraja was also present as the works began.

It had been reported that two government officials had already tried to secretly dig gold allegedly buried in the Puthukkuidiyiruppu area before a court order was issued. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is looking into the incident.

The excavation was postponed for two days due to heavy rain and was halted due to flood water accumulating the pit and heavy machinery being stuck.
