Search operation carried out in Mullaitivu seeking buried LTTE weaponry

A search operation to identify weapons used by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was undertaken on Thursday in Maththalan, Mullaitivu.

During the operation, some documents of the LTTE that were buried in the ground had been discovered and retrieved. Among those documents were logos of the LTTE on fragments of fabric and cloths, Tamil Eelam Map books and children's savings account books for kids.

The search operation was conducted on private area of land in Maththalan. This was acted upon a court order granting access and permission to carry out a drilling search operation after it had received information to suggest that there was weapons buried.
